Reginus is an odd duck who, when he wants to, can be extremely charismatic. The problem is that he rarely sees any reason to try. He used to be compared to a grinning madman, but after being crushed under the boots of Garlemald's militaristic fascism, he has abandoned his insane aspirations in favor of something more tangible and mundane: a semi-normal life. Reginus still has a unique disdain for the world as a result of his harsh upbringing, but he is strangely optimistic about what the future holds.

ㅤtw:ㅤ mentions of child abuse - Born into a wealthy family known for their vast contributions to the scientific community in Garlemald, Reginus was expected to achieve greatness. He was a prodigy in the making, a young upstart who enrolled at the Garlean Institute of Bioenigneering at just the tender age of twelve years old. Reginus was a veritable genius, gifted in both bioengineering and gene manipulation. The young upstart shook the foundation of the science community, only second to the brilliant magitek engineer Cid nan Garlond.However, everything came crashing down at his feet after decades of abuse at the hands of his philanthropist father took its toll. Reginus was a miracle child carefully chosen from among a dozen or more frozen embryos in a contentious project supported by the Garlean bioengineering community. Yet despite his family’s prestige and wealth, he still suffered at the hands of a sexually abusive father until he enrolled in the military at sixteen.Finally free to live his life away from his now estranged parents, Reginus fulfilled his duties in the military as a medicus before eventually joining the Research & Development team during the height of Garlemald's conquest of Eorzea.CLASSIFIED INFORMATION BELOW || High Military Clearance Required!Reginus discovered "akasha", also known as "dynamis," through immoral experimentation on Eorzean orphans in his desperate attempt to cure his people's inability to wield magicks. This project was called Project Siren, and the main subject was The Contact, a fair-haired boy from Gridania with unusually colored eyes. The Contact had the ability to awaken the dynamis within all living beings, twisting their emotions and transforming them into Blasphemies. While this discovery was significant at the time, the Empire believed that continuing the research after the Battle of Carteneau would be prohibitively expensive. The actions of the VIIth Imperial Legion made a bad impression on the bureaucracy, which influenced their opinion on all of their research throughout the years. This resulted in the complete disbandment of the R&D team, and called for the immediate termination of the test subjects.As a result of the Empire's decree, Reginus directed his employees to seize his research and flee in the hopes of protecting everything he had accomplished. That includes the children they have experimented on over the years. These children were left in the care of his former assistants, many of whom fled from Othard to Eorzea. The assistants were tasked with keeping the children safe from the Emperor and his sycophants while allowing them to live their normal lives. Reginus essentially gave the children their freedom. They were free to live their lives as normal children, away from the Empire's gaze. It was the only way he could possibly make amends for the crime committed against them.This open defiance set a bad precedent, one that earned Reginus a lot of scorn with the Emperor. The once beloved prodigy was then arrested and later gaoled for this. However, Reginus had other plans and escaped shortly after sentencing into the icy wilderness allegedly to be heard from again.END OF CLASSIFIED INFORMATIONSenator Licinia fae Lucon recently learned of his whereabouts in Kugane. Instead of attempting to imprison the man in the name of the newly formed Republic, Senator Lucon hired Reginus as a scientific contractor for her cousin, Vitus. With the Lucons willing to fund Reginus' costly experiments, he is deeply committed to the young senator's goals.Reginus first became interested in politics after forming an alliance with House Lucon. He frequently joins Senator Lucon at her political meetings, sometimes serving as an aide. She taught him more about politics and the world in general. He is interested in steering Garlemald away from war, and he has even begun dismantling the Castra placed abroad during Garlemald's expansion. Reginus, despite his sometimes unconventional ideas, rose to prominence in the Senate as a result of this endeavor. His vision is for a "better and safer Garlemald for all," free from the shackles of the oligarchy.If there is one thing he has learned since the war, it is that all human lives, Garlean or not, are valuable. He intends to make amends for his past by assisting Senator Lucon in paving the way for a better future.

Regardless of what some think of his nefarious research, Reginus is a renowned genius known for his creativity and ability with magitek. He's a formidable opponent to confront, especially because he's always three steps ahead of his opponents. However, this doesn't make him infallible. He's just smarter than your average fellow.

Reginus is a well-known poison expert who has a formidable resistance to most current poisons. Reginus is infamous for infusing his mechanical claws with a slow acting poison toxin aimed to corrode the respiratory of his adversaries. He's also highly informed about aether poisoning due to past experiments.

When he first joined the VIIth Imperial Legion, Reginus was trained as a medicus / field medic, contrary to common knowledge. Reginus, a skilled triage chirurgeon capable of many astonishing feats, has a tremendous mastery of both human anatomy and medicine. Reginus' sudden romance with Bertram began as a flirtatious tryst, but his feelings for Bertram have grown tenfold. Reginus adores Bertram more than anyone else in this miserable world, and he is willing to put his life on the line to protect this gentle young man. However, the two are weathering some turbulent times. Sadly, this romance ended in tragedy.
Reginus and Caius' friendship is odd. They bicker like siblings one minute, sometimes coming to blows, but the moment someone else gets involved, they defend each other. Despite how hostile these two appear to one another, there is a sense of playfulness between them. However, caius' PTSD sometimes strains their budding friendship.
The Lucons involvement in the Senate of Garlemald has existed for as long as there has been one, and Licinia is only the most recent generation to take up the mantle. However, Licinia appears to differ significantly from her geriatric predecessors, earning Reginus' attention and undying loyalty. She is his benefactor and the sole reason he joins the Hydaelyn Allied Nations Directive (H.A.N.D)
Vitus, unlike his cousin Senator Licinia, is an arrogant but brilliant bastard who knows exactly how to get under Reginus' skin. Reginus has a vague respect for the man's scientific ingenuity, but he regards Vitus as nothing more than a puppet, despite being the alleged Legatus of the XXth. While there are hints of a friendship growing between the two, Reginus knows better than to pursue anything with this man.
